Jennie Chin Hansen, RN, MSN, FAAN, a member of HWRC’s advisory board, has been a dedicated advocate for the care of older adults, an alumna of the UCSF School of Nursing, and a national leader in geriatric care, serving as president of AARP. The UCSF Medal is the University’s highest recognition honoring individuals whose life work has made a significant impact in our mission areas of scientific discovery, health care, education, and public service.
Jennie led a pioneering a program that made it possible for older adults to receive comprehensive medical and social services at home instead of a nursing home. This program is now a federally established Medicare benefit called the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) and has been replicated in 31 states.
“Jennie’s wise contributions to HWRC’s research reflect her lifelong effort to improve the health and care of older adults. Our team is grateful for her guidance,” said Joanne Spetz, director of HWRC.
