Menopause Training Standards

Projects

  • Project Description

Menopause is a critical health stage for women, yet significant gaps exist in the knowledge, training, and care provided by primary care and reproductive health clinicians. Despite the availability of evidence-based guidelines from organizations such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), many women experience delays in diagnosis, inadequate support, and misinformation.

Preliminary research highlights a lack of standardized menopause training in medical education programs. While accreditation standards for Obstetrics/Gynecology and primary care training require some focus on women’s health, menopause-specific curricula are often absent or inconsistently implemented.

    Key Objectives

    This project aims to:

We will conduct a literature review to examine:

    • Primary care and reproductive health providers’ (MDs, DOs, PAs, NPs) knowledge about evidence-based treatment of health conditions associated with menopause.
    • Accreditation standards for primary care and reproductive health provider training programs (MD, DO, NP, PA) regarding curriculum about menopause.
    • Effectiveness of curriculum on menopause taught in medical school or residency programs.
